Abu Dhabi Transit Visa
An Abu Dhabi transit visa allows passengers with a stopover at Zayed International Airport (AUH) to leave the airport and explore the city during their layover. For travelers with enough time between flights (minimum of 7 hours), this can be an excellent opportunity to visit popular attractions such as Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Yas Island, Qasr Al Watan, and the Abu Dhabi Corniche. Thanks to the airport’s convenient location, many of the city’s main landmarks can be reached within 20 to 30 minutes.
UAE immigration rules generally place transit passengers into three categories based on their nationality and travel documents:
Visa on Arrival (Free): Citizens of many countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, most European Union nations, Canada, Australia, and GCC countries, can receive a free entry permit upon arrival.
Transit Visa (Advance Application): Travelers who are not eligible for visa-free entry may need to apply for a UAE transit visa before travel. Depending on the visa type, a 48-hour transit visa may be available free of charge, while a 96-hour transit visa is typically subject to a government fee.
Pre-Arranged Tourist Visa: Some nationalities must obtain a standard UAE tourist visa before departure and cannot rely on transit visa facilities.
The exact visa option depends on your passport and travel itinerary, which is why travelers should always verify their eligibility before planning a stopover tour. In addition, passengers should allow sufficient time for immigration procedures, baggage collection, transportation, and airport check-in before their onward flight.
